Viña Esmeralda By the Sea Edition: the new limited edition with a Mediterranean essence and awareness

Viña Esmeralda has released the By the Sea Edition, a new limited edition for this summer that, besides getting a new look, takes on the firm environmental commitment to look after the Mediterranean by removing plastic waste from its coastlines. Because its essence and character come from the Mediterranean, the brand is joining the Plastic Free Oceans initiative and collaborating with Gravity Wave, a social and environmental startup dedicated to collecting plastic from the Mediterranean and its coastlines to turn this waste into street furniture and other products.
The purchase of one bottle of Viña Esmeralda By the Sea Edition will make it possible to collect the equivalent of 10 plastic bottles from Mediterranean coasts. Consumers can see their contribution via the website https://www.vinaesmeralda.com/en/sustainability/ , which will show how many bottles have been collected, as well as more details about the initiative. Thanks to the help of consumers in the more than 30 countries where the brand is present, Viña Esmeralda estimates that it will help remove 23 tonnes of plastic from Mediterranean coasts —the equivalent of 2.7 million 500-ml plastic bottles— during spring and summer 2022.
Gravity Wave, founded in 2019 by the siblings Amaia and Julen Rodríguez, aims to free the sea of plastic pollution by collaborating with companies, entities, and individuals. Working with a fleet of over 2,000 traditional fishermen in over 50 ports around the Mediterranean (Spain, Greece, and Italy), they collect plastic waste, clean it, and turn it into recycled-material street furniture and other products, supporting the circular economy.
Viña Esmeralda By the Sea Edition is the first wine to join Gravity Wave in this environmental mission to look after the Mediterranean, and it is accompanying this commitment with a new look that highlights the brand’s Mediterranean essence. The slender bottle is decorated with a maritime motif painted on the glass that evokes the calm sea and the beauty of seaside towns. This fresh, elegant design recalls the Mediterranean lifestyle and invites us to enjoy the gastronomy, the moments shared with friends and family, the culture, and the sea that surrounds us.
The limited edition is available in both versions of Viña Esmeralda: the white wine made from Muscat and Gewürztraminer grapes, and the rosé wine made from the Garnacha variety, both from the DO Catalunya. These are fresh, aromatic wines, certified with the European V-Label seal (suitable for vegans) and ideal as an aperitif or to accompany salads, rice dishes, fish, and seafood.
