Toro Albalá attendance at VINOBLE 2018 launch event last 26th February
Bodegas Toro Albalá took part in Vinoble 2018 launch event, celebrated at the London Spanish embassy last Monday, 26th February.
This historic act was promoted by La Junta de Andalucía (the institution whereby organizes the self-government of the Autonomous Community of Andalusia) through the Regulating Councils of Málaga, Montilla-Moriles, Jerez-Xérès-Sherry and Condado de Huelva. Each council presented a representative wine of their regions, being selected for Montilla-Moriles the Don PX 1955 Convento Selección from Toro Albalá. The event was attended by Enrique Garrido, Montilla-Moriles Council Director, and Alba Salesa, Toro Albala Export Director, and with other council members and wine world figures.
As was to be expected, these wines were presented by pairing them at the gala dinner with the fine cuisine of the chef José Pizarro. The wine tasting was directed by the Master of Wine Sarah James Evans, renowned wine writer and journalist that is also co-director of Decanter World Wine Awards. She has dedicated her professional career to Spanish wines but creating a special bond with sherry wines, her specialty. Almost during a decade she has been in charge of BBC’s Good Food, and is also foundress of the Chocolate Academy and authoress of the book “Chocolate unwrapped”.
Andalusian wines recognition is increasing more and more abroad, thanks to the external promotion and good quality of raw materials. This is the case of Toro Albalá, a good example of how a familiar company achieved the privilege of having a good-positioned brand into the most selected global market.
The winery bet for two generations by choosing Don PX Convento Selección 1955: Jose Mª Toro Albalá, its founder, was present at the wine harvest that year, teaching the current owner and winemaker the art and philosophy of wine-making, elements that Antonio Sánchez applies in his wines from then on. He bottled this special wine in year 2014, when he thought it was the perfect occasion for it to see the world for the first time, leaving the oak barrels where it has been ageing since 1955. Wine Advocate gave it 98 Parker points, confirming the amazing character given from the perfect combination between old-age and oak barrel. An intense, dark-coloured wine with raisins, black pepper and liquorice aromas and a lovely cinnamon finish. At mouth it is round, with figs, nutmegs notes and an amazing pure cocoa finish.
Vinoble celebrates its tenth edition between 3rd and 5th June 2018 at the Alcázar of Jerez de la Frontera. Toro Albalá will be represented at the event by its human team, who will announce and present there all the innovations of 2018 to a top-tier public.
