New issue: Selectus Wines July 2024
Here comes the summer...
And with the arrival of summer comes the heat, which has become increasingly intense in recent years. Rising temperatures pose challenges not only for humans but also for plants, including our beloved grapevines, which can suffer from water stress. Should the vines be helped through the heat? The answer is yes and no, depending on the wine region. In some, the use of irrigation is prohibited. In others, it's allowed, but the installation and operating costs can be extremely high, potentially making the winery unprofitable (and let's not forget that making wine is meant to be a commercial enterprise!). In short, the growers do what they can to keep the vines hydrated.
In this summer issue, we bring you two great interviews! Perelada opened its new winery a year ago, and its winemaker, Delfí Sanahuja, tells us how things are going today. We also spent some time chatting with the Chef de Cave of Champagne Abelé 1757. Due to space constraints, the magazine version of this interview has been abridged, but you will be able to read the full interview on our website soon.
I also provide a first-hand account of my recent trip to the prestigious wine region of Champagne. The report is divided into two parts, with the second part to be published in the next issue. And as always, we will be talking about wine, wine, and more wine...
