Mas La Plana 2011
(Bodegas Torres)
Founded in 1870, the Torres Group is synonymous with the history of Catalan wine of the last century, which has reached every corner of the globe. This family-owned group has managed its international growth and generational transition with dexterity.
Torres is the most well-known ambassador of Spanish wine in the world, and along with ten other family-owned wine companies, is a member of the prestigious “Primum Familiae Vini” international association. It is without question, the Spanish wine family, because of its history and tradition, its international operations, its focus on the environment and its defense of native grape varieties.
Mas la Plana is its flagship estate producing one of its most prestigious wines. It rose to fame in 1979, when it came first in the Cabernet category at the Gault & Millau’s Wine Olympics’ blind tasting, beating some well-known, illustrious French wine.
Mas La Plana comes from a 29-hectare, low-production vineyard planted with Cabernet Sauvignon by the Torres Family in the Pacs del Penedès area in 1966.
This 2011 boasts a very bright ruby hue with purple tints. Great aromatic intensity on the nose, with pronounced ripe fruit aromas (raspberries, redcurrants) with hints of sweet spices (cocoa, cloves, vanilla) and earthy aromas. It is exquisite and elegant. On the palate, the wine is broad and harmonious, with good structure and nice acidity. It possesses a long, fruity aftertaste with balsamic and aromatic wood aromas, and has plenty of life ahead of it.
