Le Domaine 2013
(Abadía Retuerta)
Since its inception, the winery has pursued and found the balance between tradition and technology. Its management was entrusted to two recognized industry figures: Pascal Delbeck, the oenologist at Château Belair and Ángel Anozíbar. Abbey Retuerta’s working philosophy is based on the vinification of single vineyards according to their soil composition.
The winery, located near Sardón de Duero, 15 km from Vega Sicilia, has 10,000 m2 of facilities and comprehensive technological services and innovations. Among their innovations are the use of gravity at each stage of vinification and having the choice of a large number of stainless steel vats of various capacities (80 in total) for separate micro-vinifications. The ageing cellar is set on the flank of a hill, in order to naturally control the temperature and ensure perfect ageing.
Appearance
Golden yellow. Bright.
Nose
Fine and complex. Pronounced fleshy, exotic fruit with hints of dried nuts. Nice herbaceous aromas with a subtle blend of oak.
Palate
Balanced and tasty, with a good frame wrapped in elegant oak, yet retaining a fruity character. Slightly bitter aromas on the finish, characteristic of the varietals.
Comment
Abbey Retuerta has been making Le Domaine, a very special white wine, for years. It is designed to deliver its very best, even after several years of cellar ageing. It is the result of 15 years’ long research in a terroir more accustomed to the production of reds.
We think this second vintage is a notch above the 2012. A powerful, balanced, elegant white for enjoying with food. With its solid build and good acidity, it presents excellent ageing potential. It shows great respect for the fruit and the varietal character, which are never dominated by the nice oak.
It has become one of the best and most respected white wines in Spain.
Recommended with goat’s cheese salad with basil.
