Grenaches du Monde: Destination Cariñena, European city of wine and Zaragoza, World Capital of Grenache
The international competition dedicated to the Grenache grape variety has announced the next destination for its 13th edition: Cariñena, European Wine City 2025 and Zaragoza, Grenache Capital of the World. After its trips to New York and Paris last year, the competition is returning to Aragon for the first time since 2016, in partnership with the Cariñena appellation and the municipalities of Zaragoza and Cariñena. The jury, made up of some 80 international experts, will select the best wines made from the Grenache grape variety on May 5 and 6.
The great journey of Grenaches du Monde continues. After stopping off in New York in 2023 and Paris last year, this international, travelling competition is returning to Aragon, nine years after its very first edition in the heart of this emblematic terroir of the Grenache grape variety.
In a dynamic and professional format, the Grenaches du Monde aims to attract an audience of demanding and influential professional tasters from all over the world to discover the richness and diversity of this emblematic grape variety.
Grenaches du Monde is a time for sharing and conviviality, celebrating the culture and expertise of Grenache producers at an event that has become a firm fixture in the professional calendar. The event highlights all the producers and all the regions that make Grenache wines, in all their forms: red, rosé, white, sweet, rancio or sparkling.
The aim of the competition has always been to discover and highlight regions united by the same passion for Grenache. For its thirteenth edition, it will be hosted by the Cariñena Denomination of Origin in partnership with the towns of Zaragoza and Cariñena. Cariñena, recently awarded the title of ‘European City of Wine 2025’, promises to deliver an exceptional vintage, celebrating the richness and diversity of this emblematic grape variety.
The jury, made up of around 80 international experts, will select the best wines made from the Grenache grape variety in Cariñena (Zaragoza) on May 5 and 6.

Grenaches du Monde is an annual competition open to all Grenache wines (pure or blended), regardless of colour, origin or nationality. With 163,000 hectares of vineyards, Grenache is the seventh most planted grape variety in the world. It is the emblematic variety of the Mediterranean countries, mainly Spain and France, which together account for almost 90% of the world's planted area. Spain, France and Italy are the three main producing countries, but Grenache is very popular all over the world: North and South Africa, Australia, North and South America, Croatia, Greece, Lebanon, etc.
