The most influential sommeliers in the global hospitality industry form the tasting panel for this prestigious annual selection, promoted by William Reed

Familia Torres’ Mas de la Rosa 2020 and Forcada 2021 have been recognised for their exceptional quality, earning a place in The World’s Best Sommeliers’ Selection 2025 (WBSS). This exclusive list highlights outstanding wines chosen by some of the world’s most influential sommeliers.

Serving as a trusted reference for on-trade professionals worldwide, this year’s selection features wines from 19 countries spotlighting both iconic and emerging wines. The panel was made up of more than 30 sommeliers and beverage directors from some of the world’s most prestigious venues, led by WBSS President Jhonel Faelnar, Beverage Director of NA:EUN Hospitality (Atomix) in New York—ranked No. 6 on the 50 Best Restaurants 2024 list. The ultimate tasting, organised by William Reed, took place in the UK in January.

Mireia Torres, R&D Director at Familia Torres and member of the fifth generation, stated: “We feel very honoured to have two of our wines showcased on this year’s list and value the feedback received from such esteemed professionals. Both wines represent not only our commitment to excellence, innovation and sustainability, but also the winemaking tradition of Penedès and Priorat. Mas de la Rosa is a tribute to century-old vineyards and Forcada shows our efforts to bring back Catalan ancestral varieties and to adapt to climate change”.

Mas de la Rosa 2020: A legacy to Priorat’s Terroir

Mas de la Rosa 2020 (DOQ Priorat), Familia Torres’ most exclusive wine, has been celebrated for its elegance and authenticity. Described as “a sincere wine”, “true to its roots and clearly reflecting the terroir of Priorat”, it has captivated the WBSS panel with its balance, finesse, and complexity.

The wine is a blend of Carignan and Garnacha from 85-year-old vines planted on steep, slate-rich slopes (known locally as llicorella) in Porrera, Priorat. The vineyard, certified organic and managed with regenerative practices, promotes biodiversity and living soils. The 2020 vintage, limited to just 1,200 bottles, was aged for 19 months in a 1,000-liter French oak foudre, resulting in a wine of remarkable depth and character.

Forcada 2021: Reviving Ancestral Varieties

Forcada 2021 (DO Penedès) is a white wine crafted from a nearly forgotten ancestral variety, rediscovered and revived by Familia Torres as part of their mission to adapt to climate change. This aromatic and vibrant wine has been praised for its freshness and complexity, with the WBSS panel describing it as “beautifully balanced, with a mineral focus and a long, acid-driven finish”.

This is a unique wine, with only 1,458 bottles from the 2021 vintage, which showcases the potential of ancestral varieties to thrive in a changing climate. Among the more than 60 grape varieties found by Familia Torres since the eighties, Forcada is the only white grape that stands out for its winemaking potential and its ability to withstand higher temperatures and drought. Now planted in Penedès, it benefits from a long maturation period that enhanced its aromatic intensity and natural acidity.

Mas de la Rosa 2020 and Forcada 2021 exemplify Familia Torres’ dedication to crafting wines that honour their origins while embracing innovation and sustainability. Their inclusion in The World’s Best Sommeliers’ Selection 2025 underscores their exceptional quality and the enduring legacy of this iconic winemaking family.
