Beckhams get green light to build giant wine cellar.
David and Victoria Beckham have been give the green light to build a sprawling wine cellar within their Oxfordshire home with the capacity to store over 7,000 bottles of wine.
As reported by the Daily Mail, Posh and Becks have been given permission to increase their current plans for a cellar beneath the garage in their Grade II-listed house in Oxfordshire to a 117 sq metre design fit to hold over 7,000 bottles.
The Beckhams are known for their love of wine, posting on social media about their special occasion tipples, including Château Lafite Rothschild 1990, Château Margaux 1995 and DRC Grands Echézeaux 2014.
In 2019, Victoria Beckham told This Morning on ITV that drinking red wine was the way to keep her ‘dancer’ body.
The couple are into New World wines too, and have a taste for Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignons like Screaming Eagle.
David Beckham even bought Victoria a Napa Valley vineyard as a present for her 34th birthday, which makes wine for the family’s personal use and is not available commercially.
The Beckhams are not alone in using their fortune to realise grand cellar dreams. Friends star Jennifer Aniston reportedly has a wine cellar measuring 150 sq metres, and a Margarita fountain, in her LA mansion.
Leslie Rudd, founder of US deli Dean & Deluca, has 10,000 bottles of solely Napa Valley wines cellared at his Californian restaurant Press. Meanwhile, the 50,000 bottle wine collection of Michael-Jack Chasseuil is being put on display in the French village La Chapelle-Bâton.
Whether the Beckhams emulate other collectors or not, filling such a cellar is going to be a fun lockdown project.
