All Grenache wines lead to… Paris!
The international competition, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, will be holding a master class during the Wine Paris & Vinexpo Paris trade fair, outlining the main stages of its 2021 vintage, and announcing the future 2022 edition in Navarre. A selection of award-winning Spanish, Italian and French wines will be tasted on Tuesday 15 February at 9.30 a.m. at the Parc des Expositions at Porte de Versailles in the presence of emblematic personalities from each of these regions.
The great journey of Grenaches du Monde continues. The next stage will be Paris and its Wine Paris & Vinexpo Paris trade fair, which will take place at the Porte de Versailles on 14, 15 and 16 February: "Grenachistes of the World: Unite!" will be an opportunity to relive the great moments of the 2021 edition with the main actors of Grenaches du Monde, when - as a result of the epidemy - the competition visited 4 major world capitals of the Grenache grape variety:
- Cebreros, in the Sierra de Gredos, north of Madrid, Spain
- Châteauneuf-du-Pape in the Rhone Valley
- Perpignan in Roussillon
- And Ascoli Piceno in the Italian Marches
"We wanted to share the incredible experiences we have had during these difficult times. Wine Paris & Vinexpo Paris is the ideal place to do so, as it was the last trade fair to be held before the lock-up and the first to take up the challenge of maintaining its dates and reopening its doors to the world's professionals in 2022. This optimism and this thirst for meetings and friendship are also the DNA of Grenache and its terroirs: we feel more and more like a family at Wine Paris & Vinexpo Paris" explains Fabrice Rieu, President of the Competition.
"This "grenachiste" journey at the time of the covid, had to be told, staged... and tasted! The wines that we will present are all prize-winners in the competition and they perfectly reflect these territories that share the Grenache. It is also an opportunity for us to announce the next episode of Grenaches du Monde, in Olite in Navarre", adds Frédéric Galtier, the journalist and coordinator of Grenaches du Monde, who will present the master class, whose details are available on the exhibition website following this link.
The speakers will be:
- Frédéric GALTIER - journalist and coordinator of Grenaches du Monde
- Rafael MANCEBO - President of the DOP Cebreros in Spain
- Michel BLANC - director of the AOP Châteauneuf-du-Pape
- Fabrice RIEU - president of Grenaches du Monde
- Maurizio VALERIANI – journalist and contest representative in Italy
- Javier SANTAFE - director of the DOP Navarra in Spain
Grenaches du Monde is an annual wine contest open to all Grenache wines (pure or blended), without restriction of colour, origin, or nationality. Producers and merchants wishing to enter their wines can do so online at grenachesdumonde.com.
With 163,000 hectares of vineyards, Grenache is the seventh most planted grape variety in the world. It is the emblematic variety of the Mediterranean countries, mainly Spain and France, since together they account for almost 90% of the world's planted area. Spain, France, and Italy are the three main producing countries, but Grenache is very popular throughout the world: North and South Africa, Australia, North and South America, Croatia, Greece, Lebanon, etc. In Spain, it is mainly grown in the Ebro Valley: Navarra, Rioja, Aragon, and Catalonia, although it is also found in other regions such as the Sierra de Gredos in Madrid.
