Alexandra 2004 Grande Cuvée Rosé
(Champagne Laurent Perrier)
Founded in 1812, Champagne Laurent-Perrier is one of the most important maisons in Champagne and a Group that includes Salon, among others, within its portfolio. An innovative and creative champagne house, Laurent-Perrier was one of the first to use stainless steel vats for low temperature fermentation, back in 1950. In 1959, it launched Grand Siècle, the first non-vintage "cuvée de prestige" from a big champagne house. It was also the first maison to launch a brut nature: the Laurent-Perrier Ultra Brut ("sans dosage").
Appearance
Beautiful onion skin hue. Fine, slow-moving bubbles.
Nose
Complex with good intensity and a predominance of wild berries and strawberries, combined with citrus aromas, against a backdrop of withered roses.
Palate
Of great finesse and endowed with great minerality across the palate. Its soft, creamy texture leads to a long, strawberry-flavoured finish.
Comment
In 1987, Bernard de Nonancourt seized the opportunity of the marriage of his eldest daughter, Alexandra, to create a rosé champagne from a great vintage: the Grand Siècle Alexandra Rosé 1982. This very special, exclusive, luxury cuvée is only produced in small quantities in great years, which illustrates Laurent-Perrier’s commitment to high standards.
It is made with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and is aged for eight years. The parcels and vines are carefully selected and are all located in the most prestigious vineyards, such as Ambonnay, Bouzy and Verzenay for the Pinot Noir, and Avize, Cramant, and le Mesnil-Sur-Oger for the Chardonnay.
A small amount of Chardonnay is added during the maceration of the Pinot Noir grapes. The delicate Chardonnay, mixed in with the Pinot Noir, results in a pale-coloured champagne with a delicate bouquet and finesse and elegance on the palate.
Perfect for drinking now!
Enjoy it paired very simply with grilled red Palamos prawns..
